Our mission site: How it all started

How it all started

Our missionary center in Africa was founded in 2008 in Kitale, Kenya’s - a small town located not far from the border with Uganda. This place town doesn’t differ much from other African towns: the same poverty, dirt, crowds of homeless kids, loitering about with vials of glue being desperate to get rid of hunger.

The overall view is strikingly depressing – there are slums all around the town where people drag out a miserable existence living in shacks that can hardly be called houses - built of branches, rubbish and bits of worn out oil-cloth.

That’s where a few sisters in God from Ukraine started their work. All people there needed help badly and it was hard even to imagine what to start with. God inspired the first team to try their hands at one of the slums – Shima la Tevo. However, the things didn’t go as smooth as it was expected. The most amazing fact was that usually polite or even ingratiating with the white people, the Kenyans met the missionaries with hostility. Later on it became clear that such a treatment accounted for a local wizard who, regarding missionaries as rivals, ignited hostility against them. As it turned out, our missionaries were not the first one who faced the obstacles in missionary service in this district where numerous local and foreign missions had failed.

Despite the hardships, the missionary service started in the family of one of the widows with 7 children, who was open to God. She was supported with products and in return she offered her humble dwelling to serve as the gathering place where people had to stand as there was no vacant place to sit.

After 6 years, thanks to zealous praying, God’s blessing and owing to persistent work of our missionary team, the intensive growth of missionary service and huge positive results have become noticeable.
